Training comes in many forms and for many populations. Typically, the vision of the classroom with the flipchart, powerpoint or smartboard, comes to mind. Engaged Community Consulting is honored to provide a variety of training modes and topics. Each training is unique the needs of each community.

For over three decades I have been Training companies, organizations, schools and hospitals.  Whether it’s in-person Training, Curriculum Development, or Web-based Training,  my Training tools and techniques meet the cultural learning styles of both the individual and the organization.

ENGAGED TRAINING

Training should focus on Engagement. If a trainer is not connecting with the whole room and are relatively self-aware, they should feel that disconnect. To train and communicate a theory, technique, strategy or data effectively you must be in that moment. I learned very early on that if I am distracted, my messaging will be unfocused. Everyone in that room, especially myself, have something to learn. Of course, as a trainer, we may be bringing some new information to the table, but I strongly believe that as individuals EVERYONE brings something to the recipe, whether it’s through interpretation, inquiry or simply by how they communicate.

I don’t like to hold my cards close to my chest and will get “meta” with my trainings bringing participants into the process so they get a more comprehensive understanding of the issue at hand, whether I am referencing my training body language when talking about Counseling or Engagement or my choice of pronouns while I am talking to emphasize my honoring of Gender Identity. Engagement for me is something that gets integrated into everything.

Curriculum Development

Over the years, I have made a point to tailor each curriculum to the unique needs of the community I’m consulting in. The one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t always work. I have always advocated on the importance of local tailoring; considering from language and geography to vision and values. For example, an approach towards Fund Development might be noticeably different in rural communities than in urban communities. Every organization — every individual — in every organization has their own culture that needs to be taken into consideration. My curriculum design process integrates the unique trends in your community and strives to meet your organization’s various learning styles.

WEB-BASED TRAINING

Unique tailoring applies to both in person trainings as well as web-based training. Over the past decade, I have established web-based training models for various topics and communities. Not everyone has the time or organizational capacity to travel to a training. I started providing web-based trainings in 2005 for part-time and volunteer overnight shelter staff because they were unable to get updated information to strengthen their professional capacity. Granted, there are some aspects of nonverbal communication that can get lost in web-based training, but there’s a reality of accessibility that always needs to be taken into consideration.
